Angela Alsobrooks for Senate is our Latest Diversity Pipeline Champion!
Diversity Matters is putting our full weight behind Angela Alsobrooks to be the next U.S. Senator from Maryland and defend the crucial Democratic majority in the Senate.
As the first Black woman Senator from Maryland, Alsobrooks understands why our Diversity Pipeline Pledge is so important- and we are thrilled that she is our latest signatory to the pledge! She will be a powerful advocate for national legislation addressing the needs and concerns of Americans from all communities across the increasingly diverse state of Maryland, and throughout our country.
However, she will need our help. She’s facing a challenging race against former Republican governor of Maryland Larry Hogan and he has the money and the name recognition to potentially win this critical Senate seat. That could be catastrophic for our country, as Democrats currently hold the Senate by just one seat, and we are unfortunately poised to lose that seat when Senator Joe Manchin (West Virginia) retires this term.
We are going to fight to keep and flip other critical Senate seats, but we cannot afford to lose Maryland for reasons ranging from reproductive rights and voting rights to our national security interests. The next President will likely be in a position to appoint at least one person to the Supreme Court, a critical appointment for our rights and liberties - and for holding those who undermine our national interests accountable.
Is Alsobrooks ready to handle the challenge? The Washington Post says yes- and we agree! Alsobrooks has earned endorsement from Vice President Kamala Harris and top leaders from Maryland and across the country based on her proven record of good governance and public service.
