Andy Kim for Senate
In 2018, Diversity Matters decided to support a political unknown running to flip a House seat from red to blue. That longshot candidate, Andy Kim, won! He unseated a Republican incumbent and staunch Trump supporter as part of the 2018 Blue Wave of victories that brought unprecedented diversity to national and state offices.
Dozens of Diversity Matters volunteers helped get out the vote for Andy, knocking on hundreds of doors, mailing over 550 postcards and making phone calls to voters in New Jersey’s 3rd congressional district.
Following the horrific Capitol insurrection on January 6, Andy showed us what faith, hope and public service look like in action.
Andy Kim is New Jersey’s first Asian-American Congressman, and now he’s poised to become its first Asian-American Senator, another long shot bid that shows that our strategy is working- we are building a pipeline and that pipeline is moving our champions forward!
Andy's pathbreaking challenge to New Jersey's primary process won a major victory in the face of old school backdoor insider politics.
Congressman Kim has been true to the Diversity Pipeline PIedge because he believes that diversity and inclusivity are central to any successful working environment, especially in public service. He has prioritized giving opportunities to all people, including those from diverse and disadvantaged backgrounds, on his campaign and official staff.
He wrote anti-discrimination policies for all employees and to work proactively with staff associations to recruit and hire a diverse and talented workforce.
As the ranking member on the military personnel subcommittee where Republicans have prioritized efforts to destroy and eliminate DEI initiatives in our government and military, his championship has been deeply important.
And we’re looking at the bench he is building for our next wave of champions! Andy launched the In Our Hands PAC, to recruit, train, and support members of the AANHPI communities and candidates of color run for office at all levels of government. We need Andy in the Senate and encourage our supporters to get involved with his campaign!
