Candidate Focus! Hoan Huynh for Congress
We established this group to promote champions dedicated to building a more inclusive pipeline of future elected leaders. We have supported fantastic champions in past elections at national and state levels, and this year will also support primary candidates who share our values and are breaking through the old traditional party pipelines. Our latest endorsement is Hoan Huynh for Illinois' Fifth Congressional District.
Hoan is an enthusiastic proponent of our Diversity Pipeline Pledge. In his own words: "In order for us to solve complex, multifaceted, and intersectional challenges of the 21st century, we must take a proactive approach in recruiting, hiring, and retaining diverse individuals within legislation, and I intend to continue amplifying diverse voices, push to increase individual participation in our voting process to ensure proper representation, and unabashedly fight for a more fair and just future for all Americans."
Hoan is taking on a longtime Democratic establishment candidate, Rep. Mike Quigley. But as Hoan's team describes it, Quigley is no longer in touch with the increasingly diverse IL-05 district. The rising share of immigrants, particularly Latino and Asian immigrants, have not yet been reflected in political representation. That needs to change, and it can only change when we support challengers who give voters even in heavily Democratic districts a different choice.
Hoan tells us that as a Vietnamese-Chinese refugee in America, his own life has benefited from progressive social and economic policies. That's why he is committed to building economic opportunity and access for all communities.
So give Hoan a follow, and we'll be sharing more info about how to support his race in the coming months.
