Introducing Chao Wu for Maryland's 9th!

We’re excited to report that Dr. Chao Wu is our newest Diversity Champion! Chao takes his pledge seriously -“A vote for Wu is a Vote for You!”  He has committed to represent ALL of us and is our newest signatory to the Diversity Pipeline Pledge as he runs to represent Maryland’s newly-redrawn 9th District in the House of Delegates, covering parts of Montgomery and Howard Counties. 

We are supporting Chao’s race because state legislatures matter.  While Maryland is considered a ‘blue’ state, a Republican, Gov. Larry Hogan, has vetoed bill after bill emerging from the state legislature.  In this cycle alone, Hogan vetoed efforts to support election workers, opposed ensuring access to abortions and reproductive care, and even refused to sign a ban on deadly ghost guns.  This so-called “moderate” governor only appears that way because a strong state legislature has overridden these vetoes!

So we were excited to learn that, thanks to the 2022 redistricting, Maryland’s District 9A is competitive and we have the chance to flip a seat currently held by a Republican, and ensure Maryland’s legislature is more truly representative of its people!

Chao has a track record of service to our community.  He’s currently a member of the Howard County Board of Education and its former Chair, and as a BoE member, championed diversity efforts in our schools.  Chao puts education, infrastructure, the environment, and workforce development at the top of his priorities. The immigrant son of parents who never finished elementary school, Chao earned a Ph.D and built a career as a data scientist.  He’s ready to do the work, so let’s work to help him win his seat!
