This week we have another opportunity to learn about the importance of countering voter suppression, from the journalist and author Ari Berman. Our friends at Sister District are hosting a fireside chat with Berman on Wednesday, August 7 at 7 p.m. Sign up here to join us!
Why it matters: Berman will be discussing his important new book Minority Rule: The Right-Wing Attack on the Will of the People — And the Fight to Resist It.
Our election system is badly in need of reform. While Democrats have tried in recent years to pass critical voting rights reform legislation such as the For the People Act and Freedom to Vote Act, there are powerful actors trying to roll back our ability to choose our elected officials, and they are using tactics ranging from legal challenges to what's left of the Voting Rights Act to placing election deniers on local election boards in swing states.
However, there is so much we can do to actually expand voting rights even in the face of these threats! Berman's thoughtful analysis shows us where the glass is half full, and how important public organizing and mobilization can be to win even more protections. So this week, join another inspiring discussion and find motivation to join our next set of actions!

About this event
Join Sister District for a conversation with Ari Berman about his new book Minority Rule: The Right-Wing Attack on the Will of the People — And the Fight to Resist It.
The conversation will be moderated by Gaby Goldstein, Co-Founder of Sister District. There will be ample time for audience Q&A.
The mob that stormed the Capitol on January 6, 2021, represented an extreme form of the central danger facing American democracy today: a blatant disregard for the will of the majority. However, this crisis did not begin or end with Donald Trump’s attempt to overturn the 2020 election. Through voter suppression, election subversion, gerrymandering, dark money, the takeover of the courts, and the whitewashing of history – so much of which happens at the state level – reactionary white conservatives have strategically entrenched power in the face of massive demographic and political shifts. Journalist Ari Berman charts all of these efforts and the grassroots movement that’s fighting back in his new book.
