No matter our color, background or zip code, voters should pick their leaders, not the other way around. We come together every decade to draw new district lines that give each of our votes equal weight, each of our voices equal stature, and each of our communities equal access to the decision making processes that determine funds for schools, hospitals, and other essential services that our government allocates.
Republicans control a number of key state legislatures, and they will use their power to divide us and dilute the power of our vote.
Fair districting is essential to equity and inclusion. And it's part of the package of voting rights we're fighting for.
Nobody knows our communities better than the people who live in them. But politicians afraid of losing power want to take community districting out of our hands so they can pick and choose who counts, tearing our neighborhoods apart for the next ten years. By joining together to speak out for fair districting, we can make our communities whole and deliver what our schools and families need for a decade to come. And we can hold our elected officials accountable to ALL of us.
What can you do? Keep calling your Senators about the importance of ending the filibuster and passing the For the People Act. And make plans to join a national day of action on August 28, March On for Voting Rights. We'll be joining the Washington, DC action and welcome our DMV area friends to join us- just e-mail us to know you'd like to be part of our group!
